Governor Joe Lombardo Declares State of Emergency for Bug and Fred Mountain Fires

NEVADA, August 10 - CARSON CITY, Nev. — Today, Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency for areas of Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony impacted by the Bug and Fred Mountain Fires.

The fires have collectively burned more than 16,000 acres, threatening thousands of homes in areas of Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. More than 6,000 people have been evacuated, with thousands of additional residents in evacuation warning zones as the fires continue to grow.

“Thousands of Nevadans have been forced from their homes as these fires continue to threaten communities across Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “The state is taking every available step to support local responders, protect lives and property, and ensure the resources necessary to confront these fires are where they are needed most. I am grateful to the firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel, and community members working around the clock to keep Nevadans safe.”

Under the declaration, all state agencies are directed to work through the Nevada Emergency Operations Center to supplement local efforts. The declaration is effective August 10 and will remain in effect through August 17, 2026, unless terminated sooner if conditions improve.
