Laid Off by Verizon in December, Atlanta Designer Launches App That Turns a Phone Into an 'Indestructible Body Camera'
Time Release Safes delivers end-to-end encrypted evidence to trusted contacts the moment danger escalates — even if the phone is destroyed. Android Sept. 14.
Phone cameras have delivered more justice than every reform Congress has passed in 50 years — but only when the video survives. I built TRS so the video survives any attack on the phone.”
ATLANTA, GA, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Time Release Corporation today announced the launch of Time Release Safes (TRS), a personal-safety app built for the moments when a phone is the only witness. TRS records end-to-end encrypted, evidence-grade video that ships to a user's trusted contacts — along with their location — the moment a situation escalates. Once captured, the evidence cannot be stopped or deleted, even if an aggressor takes or destroys the phone.— Kevin R. L. Hanson, Founder & CEO, Time Release Corporation
Designed with domestic-violence survivors in mind, TRS can disguise itself entirely as a working clock — including during a live recording — so someone searching a survivor's phone sees nothing that looks like a safety app. A "Full Panic" feature wipes the encryption keys from the device itself, locking down evidence and stored life documents even with the phone in an abuser's hand.
Unlike location-sharing safety apps, TRS runs nothing in the background. Every capture is owner-initiated, event-scoped, and expiring, protected by XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption with keys that never leave the device. The architecture is the subject of 14 provisional patent applications filed with the USPTO.
"Cell phone cameras have delivered more justice and accountability than every reform Congress has passed in the last 50 years — but only when the video survives," said Kevin R. L. Hanson, founder and CEO. "I built Time Release Safes so the evidence survives the most vicious attacks on it — even when the phone doesn't."
Hanson, an Atlanta UX designer, built TRS solo in six months after being laid off by Verizon in December 2025, funding development from his own 401(k). Through the company's Outcry Fund, every 1,000 paying subscribers sponsors a full year of protection for a survivor who cannot afford it, nominated by a credentialed domestic-violence advocate.
Time Release Safes is available free on the App Store, with founding-member pricing of 50% off the Plus tier for the first 25,000 members. The Android version arrives on Google Play September 14, 2026.
