The Headless Horseman Rides into Lincoln

The Classic Theatre expands its beloved annual production with three actors and new theatrical elements for an immersive evening at Rancho Roble Vineyards.

LINCOLN, CA, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- This fall, The Classic Theatre invites audiences to step into the shadows of Washington Irving’s legendary tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Presented in partnership with Rancho Roble Vineyards in Lincoln, CA, this distinctive theatrical experience brings together live theatre, local food, wine, music, and family-friendly fall activities for an evening designed to capture the atmosphere and spirit of Irving’s classic American ghost story.

For Artistic Director Jennifer Blair, the production is the realization of a dream a decade in the making.

“Ten years ago, I sat in the Old Dutch Church in Tarrytown, New York, amidst candlelight and heard the story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” said Blair. “It has been a dream of mine ever since to bring this story to life as an immersive production in my hometown.”

The Classic Theatre has presented the story as a one-actor production for the past three years. This season, the company is using a new adaptation by John Minigan that expands the cast to three actors and introduces new production elements designed to deepen the audience’s experience.

The result is an intimate outdoor theatrical experience that invites audiences not simply to watch the story, but to enter its world.

Guests will begin their evening by exploring the beautiful Rancho Roble property, enjoying a catered dinner by Randy Peters, a complimentary glass of wine, and festive fall activities for the whole family. As twilight settles over the vineyard, guests will take their seats for the performance.

Irving’s tale follows the famously superstitious schoolmaster Ichabod Crane as he ventures into the mysterious countryside of Sleepy Hollow, where romance, folklore, humor, and the terrifying legend of the Headless Horseman collide.

Following the performance, guests are invited to linger around the fire pits, enjoy live music, and mingle with friends and fellow theatre-goers as the evening continues beneath the stars.

“This is more than simply an evening at the theatre,” Blair said. “It’s an invitation to slow down, gather together, and experience this classic story in a setting that feels like it belongs in the tale itself.”

Additional food will be available for purchase on-site. Guests wishing to enjoy the catered dinner by Randy Peters must reserve their dinner at least one week prior to the event.

Guests are encouraged to dress warmly, as the performance takes place outdoors. Coats and blankets are welcome and encouraged.
