Governor Abbott Issues State Disaster Declaration For El Paso County Following Flooding Impacts

Governor Greg Abbott today announced that he has issued a state disaster declaration for El Paso County following heavy rainfall and flooding that has impacted communities in the Far West Texas region.

“I issued a state disaster declaration for El Paso County to ensure the full resources of the State of Texas are available to support local response and recovery after heavy rainfall and flooding,” said Governor Abbott. “Texans affected by this storm should report damage through the iSTAT survey once it is safe so officials can assess needs and eligibility for federal assistance. Texans must never drive through flooded roads and should follow guidance from local officials.”

State emergency response resources deployed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) at the Governor’s direction remain engaged in support of local response and recovery efforts.

When it is safe to do so, the Governor also urged Texans affected by recent rain and flooding to report damage online using TDEM’s Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) damage survey. The self-reporting damage survey is available online at damage.tdem.texas.gov. The information provided by Texans in the iSTAT survey aids emergency management officials in gaining an understanding of damage that has occurred, helps officials determine whether federal requirements for various forms of disaster assistance have been met, and identifies any immediate resource needs.

As additional rainfall and flooding threats continue, hazardous conditions remain an ongoing concern. Texans are reminded to monitor local weather forecasts, follow guidance from emergency management officials, and never drive through flooded roadways. Texans can find flood safety information at TexasReady.gov, check road conditions at DriveTexas.org, access flood information at TexasFlood.org, and locate all-hazards preparedness tips at tdem.texas.gov/prepare.
